Friday Night Football: Red Oak Takes Over to 6th Place Team in State

A year ago, Colleyville-Heritage and Red Oak battled for a district championship. This year, under a new head coach, the Hawks are still finding their identity. Tonight would be a good time as they welcome in a state-ranked opponent.

The number 6 Colleyville-Heritage Panthers visits Red Oak to maintain perfection in 4-5A-Division 1.

A year ago, Collieville Heritage and Red Oak fought for the District Championship. This year, under the new head coach, the Hawks are still finding their identity. It will be a good time tonight as they welcome state-ranked opponents.

The two teams were in the district class with last year’s Masnfield-Summit. The Heritage and Summit are still at the top of the district this year, but Red Oak and new head coach Tony Holmes took some time to find themselves.

The Hawks played on a tight schedule. Two of their defeats are against the state-ranked teams of Ennis and Rockwall-Heath. But with their talent, they probably wouldn’t have lost to Richland a week ago and can take advantage of tonight’s victory to turn the season around.

The heritage will be 2-0 in district play and could be a district title game with next week’s summit. It’s like a game that decides who will win the 4-5A-Division I … and it will be a dangerous game for them tonight.

Red Oak has the talent to play with Collieville Heritage … and they have them in their home field. If the heritage allows this to begin to feel like a classic trap game, they may annoy themselves tonight.

It all starts at 7pm tonight.
